a newcomer to vsk2

Ask the ITBYC panel

Hi all

I've just ordered my copy of vsk2 having played the demo for several weeks. I've read several forums on the so say improved vsk2 but the majority of the posts have been negative. Is the game play that bad?

I understand that there's no automatic Sail trim on the online races which will be a problem for me as I have a physical disability but I've developed quite a good system of manually adjusting the trim using the mouse.

obviously I can't comment on the penalty system yet But surely Duran can alter that in a patch!

I read that the other problem is that a lot of a regatta races set by Duran on the server are sailed in force 6-7 which is quite hectic when having to trim and helm but surely it's possible to create and host your own races with different settings!

Well I guess I'll find all this out tomorrow or Friday when Amazon delivers my copy!

I sincerely hope it's not as bad as I've read

Hi Keith,

This forum is actually only for suggestions regarding future versions/patches of VSK, but since you allready posted here, I'll reply:

The game is not bad at all. It's very good! Of course there are a few things that could have been better (most important the VSK umpires understanding of a few ISAF rules), but overall it's a killer. Prepere your self to be addicted...

After a while you learn how to deal with (avoid) the games weaknesses. Then you realize the the biggest problem with public online games is the players, not the software... Bargers at the starting ling, port rammers at the top mark...

There is automatic option also on the internet, unless if you choose the pro mode. But this mode is not used frequently by online racers. Beware that the boat goes faster simply by changing from automatic to manual trim. So stay on manual until wind speed/direction or boat speed/direction changes signifficantly. If it changes then go to auto for a fraction of a second and back to manual.

Good luck!

... and there are many online racers preferring the lower force winds! In any case you'll be the one deciding wind force, auto trim or not and course length when you host!

Enjoy!

In my opinion VSK2 is a much better game than VSK1. One thing I've noticed is that most of the people that complain about VSK2 are VSK1 players that haven't got used to the differences in the game. I've never heard of a VSK2 player going back to VSK1 (not that that is possible anymore...)

After a few lag free races in an 8 boat fleet you'll likely agree.
In theory there is no difference between theory and practice, but in practice there is.
