This looks to be somthing related to yoer firewall settings. when the system is new most programs will need to be allowed threw the firewall.
XP's new service pack 2 will have the firewall on by default so dont miss looking there as well as what ever other firewall you must be using.

I have the same problems using windows XP

I have tried to turn of the firewall.
This doesn't solve the problem.

Any other suggestion ?

I know the proxy error is related to the fire wall because thats the error I can produce by locking down my firewall. I know Ive seen the error 50 too but dont remember what produces it or how I fixed it. I usually give problems like this a few tries( a couple reboots, check that other similar programs work. wipe out the list on the firewall and let it reset itself one program at a time) then if that fails I would uninstall VSK and remove any folders left behind remove refrences in the firewall of vsk then reinstall.
sory I cant be more spacific I know your not the first one to have this error, hopefully someone else will see this and know the answer.

Oh yes now I remember, I had installed a fresh copy of the game after a reformat of my hard drive and the copy of the latest patch I had stored on another drive had become corrupt. When I tried to use it I got that error 50. It had me confused for a bit because the game worked fine offline and made no mension that the version was wrong or out of date. so get a new copy of the patch and all should be fine.
