I recently upgraded to Windows XP Home and can't figure out how to set up my system to host VSK2 races. I have a LinkSys BEFSR41 4-port router to which I've networked 2 computers and is uplinked to a cable modem. Keith helped me configue my system successfully when I had Win 98 and I thought Win XP would be easier. Can someone please advise me as to how to proceed?

Try first to see if the built-in XP firewall is enabled. Right click your network connection, choose properties and advanced. Turn it off If it's enabled. If not, wait for router help from Keith or Theo...

Thnx Harald. I checked that and I did not have the XP firewall enabled. So, I will await further info regarding router setup from Keith and/or Theo.

Hey Andy,
A couple of things to check:
1. Make sure your computer is using a static IP address and not an IP assigned by DHCP.
2. Make sure your router is forwarding UDP packets on ports 2300-2400 to the IP address you assigned in step 1.
My guess is that when you installed XP your computer got a new (internal) IP address so the forwarding we set up before is no longer working.

Hi,
I recently moved, got a brand new DSL connex with router, so I've just been through the hole drill...
Jadran, follow Keiths advice as above (or on his VSK2 FAQ) and make sure you get the router to forward the named ports. My router has a lot of confusing options and settings, I looked them all through and just made sure all options that have anything to do with "port forwarding" or "virtual server" setting were instructed to forward port 2350.
And check the firewall you run on the PC (Norton Internet Security, ZoneAlarm or similar).

Thanks guys.... I am now in search of the write-up Keith did that explains in detail how to set up my router. Do we have it posted somewhere in our forum?

Andy: if you only got a new OS on the computers in your network,
don't change the router!!!! AFAIK all you need is to configure the winXP boxes so they have the same IP as before.
If for one reason you didn't write down how you configured your router, start out at Keith's FAQ at:
