In an e-mail to the Nadeo project manager, I asked about the future of VSK. Due to the slow distribution around the world (they have just recently got a distributor for the North American market), there will for sure not be a release together with TrackMania 2, which I've heard is in the works. The sales and feedback will decide what happens after that. But Nadeo wanted to hear what would be the most important new feature or fixes for VSK4. Please post here, and I'll get back to them.

A few things I was hoping to see in VSK3 were:

- time differentials for all boats at mark roundings
- live calculation of team points in ISAF panel
- the fixing of some well known false pen situations (esp in prestart)

And a really huge one for me was the ability to use the waves like in VSK2. I still don't understand why VSK3 lost that feature, it was big one.

More later

more classes of boats would be good, maybe the new VOR 70? or even a good aussie 18ft skiff

small thing, i wouldnt mind the ability to make 'gate' marks similar to what they use in the olympics and big international regatta

From a racing point of view,
I think we need to work on the predictability of the windshifts.
Maybe not to have the same wind simultaniously all over the course.
Maybe add more "random elements" in the shifts.
What about 12 boats in a fleetrace?, what about 30?

From a community point of view:
We need features so that skippers can chat & arrange (look at the succes of HT and VSK-match chat features... This should be a part of the game.) Does anybody know how this functions in Trackmania?

From a sales point of view.
More classes,
and more marketing (we (the community) should help)

A true match racing start would be nice. Have the gates that you have to enter and enter at the prober time.

Your idea about a true match racing start gave me an idea Tony. To make it even more real, I think we should be able to include a few luxury yachts/cruisers with topless girls lounging and leaning all over the decks. Fuck the fishing boats and helicopters.

Sounds ok to me

Paul I am ashamed of you. What a terrible post, totally lacking in taste as well as common sense.

Ah, now I understand, just looked up your background, an AUSSIE!! :p

Now if a Canadian had posted that we would of had to good sense to fuck the topless girls rather than the fishing boats and helicopters. Especially if the girls were leaning all over the decks. :D

Sorry Harald just a little off topic.

One thing I would like to see is a "better" replay. While watching some of Harald's matchs in the Horus I found it difficlult to know for sure when penalties were being awarded. Some indication of the penalties and the rule infringed would certainly be useful to me.

Can anybody guess what I want...

AI BOATS IN USER DESIGNED COURSES... and a better AI for that matter.

Other things:

- A demo that lets players play online, much like VSK1. Demo players should be able match race on one course with opponents selected by the server. People that own the game should be able to join demo games from within the full version of VSK.

- Provide default skins that are country neutral with the ability to select a nationality ala VSK2.

- Penalties and ROW rules shown in the replays.

- Whatever rules fixes are required.

Hehehe, nice one Jake - got me there

And I'm with you, having a much more informative replay interface. Which shows the start and finish lines, pens and displays accurate time.

Also, it would be great to have a "shadow" boat which represented your best time around a course. That way, you could race against yourself. Does TrackMania do this already?

• Realism
This is a whole large topic on its own, but in essence two things need to happen here I think.

Firstly VSK needs to get away from the sailing by numbers feeling and have a more natural feeling to it. I fully understand this is very hard to do and it took Microsoft years to get right with their Flight Simulator product but it would have an enormous effect on overall game play.

Secondly it might be an idea if there was damage monitoring on a per boat basis. For example if you hit the shore or hit another boat, or have the sails set incorrectly.

• Boat Selection
A wider selection of boats would be nice, but the key to getting the selection right is understanding why most people use the ACC most of the time. I.e. If this is what people really want to use then why bother with anything else, or is that the other boats are poor simulations, if so lets get that fixed before anything is done with new boats

• Lobby & Chat
Lots of work to be done here most of which has been said before. Mainly a chat facility in the main lobby of some sort. A redesign of the main lobby is required to make it more user friendly.

• Sailing interface
The main interface should be a lot clearer that it is right now. The ability to select instruments of your own choice would be welcomed as well

Sure Paul, TrackMania shows your best race as a shadow in the next race, if you want it to

I'd mainly like to see new classes, such as an 18 ft. skiff, farr 40, hobie cat maybe...etc. and I'd like to see asymetrical spinnakers and real spinnaker poles, not just floating spinnakers. Predictablility of wind shifts could be changed, that's a good one, as well as the "shadow" boat idea. More sail trim options for pros would be cool, like track car position, traveller position, individual main and jib sheeting, etc. but only for pros because beginners would be much too confused.

I agree with many of the above post especially Andersk....

Also haveing the boats be able to surf waves like in vsk2. the Trimiran in vsk3 is an absolute dud, it looks and feeles like its sailing slow dispite the BS indicator. Being able to create more apearent wind would help. Capsizing was also a nice realistic feature. I sail a hobie and telling my budies that the Acc boat is better to sail than the tri makes for a hard sell.

Another interesting boat class to add would be iceboats. They are an absolute rush in real life traveling 60+ mph on a DN. other classes go even faster.

Noticed this press release on Scuttlebutt today. Believe this addressed to the North American market.

* The new release of Virtual Skipper 3 is now available. The updated racing
simulator provides updated ISAF rules and increased right-of-way indicators
to provide warnings on potential rule violations. State of the art graphics
portray yachting like never before with realistic sailing conditions, water
movements according to day and night transitions, realistic weather
conditions, and sea behavior. Four different classes (America s Cup,
45-foot offshore, ORMA 60 trimaran, and Melges 24) can be sailed at six
different locations. Look for Virtual Skipper 3 in performance sailing
chandleries and nautical bookstores on both coasts.
