I just got a Fujitsu Siemens Scaleoview C19-8 with a reaction time of 12 ms and works fine with vsk.

For 300 € I guess it was a good purchase.

So what’s the absolutely best brand and model of LCD monitor to get today for VSK4?
In your last posts about 6 – 7 months ago, Harald liked his 20” Viewsonic; Kasti recommended Samsung, which Double Dutch also liked, and Scorpa was happy with his 19” Seimens.

Been using a 5 year old 21” sony GDM 7-500 but it’s losing focus most of the time. (but it hasn't helped with what the vsk Umpires sees)

(PC had good specs and cards when bought 7 months ago.)

So what’s the best LCD monitor in the 19” to 21” or larger? to buy for for gaming today?
Your recommendations greatly appreciated.

Being under influence of the grafic artists in our company. I once more am out to get CRT monitors. Only now i hardly can get new ones so gunning to get a pair of used 21" blacktrintron tubes made by Sony and some decent outfit that put narrow bezel around them.

In the mean time you can read up here at the INQ what happens if you say that LCD is the end it all to monitors.

I don't think anyone said LCD monitors were the be all and end all when it came to monitors, but I just received a 21" ViewSonic LCD (VP2130b) to replace a 21" ViewSonic CRT and so far I love it. I can pick the thing up with one hand, stand and all, which means it's actually possible to dust under my monitor (you need a very good reason and a small crane to budge a 21" CRT)! I've gained yards of desk space, it's adjustable as all get out (height, tilt, swivel, etc), can be adjusted with a fingertip, and my picture is crystal clear at 1600x1200 (the native resolution for the monitor) while I couldn't run the CRT above 1280x1024 without things getting fuzzy. In fact I'm finding that even at 1600x1200 I'm having to reduce the size of fonts in some applications. I haven't tried the monitor for gaming yet, but it claims to have a 8ms response time, so it should be good enough (of course, I will need a new computer to drive all my games at 1600x1200). If not I'll just plug the CRT back in and have a dual monitor configuration!

So far I'm loving it.

Cheers,
Keith

I've been running an SGI 1600SW LCD for over 3 years and I am still yet to see anything sharper or with better fidelity. I think people's negative opinions about LCD's come from viewing cheap LCD's. I've seen plenty of crap CRT's in my time (I'm one of those "graphic artists" hehe).

You get what you pay for - as always.

For those of you that are into first person shooting :)
The french hardware.fr put up a read worthy article. In french ofcourse.

here

"You get what you pay for" is the right thinking allright. Keep an eye on the size of the monitors. IMO that's where the newer LCD's beat CRT I can now get a 30"-ish LCD for the money that bought me a 21" CRT 3-4 years ago.

You can lift it, that is just for the record I suppose.
But can your maid lift it with one arm?

I've gained yards of desk space

Which means that Keith now has space for a fridge on his desk. This will signifficantly affect his racing, as he no longer has to take a break half way through every race to pick up his 2nd beer.
