Request for clarification on the rules

Postby AlbaChiara » 14 Mar 2011 22:37

During WTRC 2011, there was a case in the pre-start, that due to the insignificance of the result for the ranking was not protested. Is it possible post it on this site to have opinions on this?

Thanks.

Thanks for the help.

The case is at min 1:35 minutes of replay, more or less than 30 seconds from the start. In our discussions we have taken as the reference C.U. F2 but we cann't define exactly who has the right and who's not.

Can someone clarify the situation?

Thanks

Giorgio

In my opinion, since the RRS 11 to Orca against LSD happened before Orca was overlapped with MDV, I would say it is an RRS 11 penalty. The second penalty, to MDV was caused by Orca being pushed forward by contact, and I would exonerate MDV under RRS 64.1.

I did not see other interventions, I have concluded that the interpretation of Greg is the right one?

Thanks

An interpreation cannot be black or white (right or wrong). I will check the replay, when Ill find some free time, but as Greg is an educated Judge, he cannot be that (much) wrong :).

I can be sometimes wrong. Especially when I wasn't in the race.

While Orca came down to LSD the 11 is correct, there is for sure no other rule to apply.

The second penalty, to MDV was caused by Orca being pushed forward by contact, and I would exonerate MDV under RRS 64.1.

I can second that.

I think you should study a bit the regulation, is applicable in this situation the call f2.

Orca violates Rule 11, true, but LSD breaks the rule 19!

MDV is exempted from 64

Well, remember that it is the right of way boat that can pass an obstruction on either side. So, at the point of the contact, (I have not looked at the replay since my post earlier) I do not know that you can say LSD fails to give room. Also, nothing compels Orca to hit LSD. At the time of the collision, both boats were still clear-astern of MDV.
