20.2 Responding
(c) A hailed boat shall respond either by tacking as soon as
possible, or by immediately replying ‘You tack’ and then
giving the hailing boat room to tack and avoid her.

Please note that this rule has been modified in App D for VSK, so you don't have to respond "you tack", you just have to give room.

No, don't have to write YT as the appendix is written (now).
Three options for the hailed boat:
- tack as soon as possible
- respond by writing ‘you tack’ (‘YT’)
- if she is able to, wait until the hailing boat begins her tacking maneuver and then giving the hailing boat room to tack and avoid her

The intention on the last option, is to not waste time on forcing the other boat to write a reply, which often is not necessary in vsk. This makes the process faster, more like real water.
